i have to query and group by based on a column in the infotable and the return type should be infotable- As am new to thingworx and javascript any help would be appreciated

I think you mean Sort?

There is a Resources library called InfoTable Functions, in it, there is Sort

Also in the mashup Runtime, you can click on any Grid header to sort/reverse sort on its content.
