Update symbols in Central catalogue from Template file

When i created my own Template file with ".rsd" & ".rsdt" file. When i create any new connector/variable connector symbol and send it to temporary submission folder and update the same in central catalogue by copy and paste.

I cannot edit/delete the same symbol neither in .RSD file or .RSDT file. am i doing the wrong move to update the same symbol which i created in template file ? or i should directly delete the symbol from the central catalogue folder ? when i tried to delete the same symbol in template file am getting the following note in below dialogue box " Cannot edit shape for central catalog item".

Please guide me how do i update the symbols in template file after i submit them to central catalogue location.

From my own notes on doing this process;

How to set a schematics design password:

Save as the design into a folder (network drive or local drive). In File explorer navigate to the location you saved design (not the folder of the design name) Open the command window (type cmd in the microsoft search window) Change to the directory that you saved the design to (not the actual design name, the level down) Copy/paste “C:\Program Files\PTC\Creo 7.0.0.0\Schematics\x86e_win64\creoschematics\bin\password” (add the quotes “”) upload_-aW1hZ2UwMDIuanBn-2650818346544108241..jpg Add the word display and the design name as shown (for displaying password name).

To set the password you use set <design name> <password>

Hi PKUMARAK,

In order to edit a shape in the central catalog requires you to use a catalog lock design that you setup a password to unlock and allows editing with that design file only.

Hi klittlejohn,

Thanks for the comment,

I really appreciate if you guide me how to lock the design file (.RSD file). Since i am having the admin access though i am a user,

Am struggling to update the template file once i send them to central catalogue location.

because as of now i haven't given the lock authentication to my template file. it is open now.

with that template file i have submitted all the catalogue objects to central catalogue. Now if i want to edit the same template file for the symbols which i created it is not letting me to do so. Mainly i am focusing on creating the symbols in Template file and update the datatable for respective folders. So that it will reflect in my existing designs by verifying catalogue.

Protecting the Base Design from Unauthorized Modification

Within the Creo Schematics installation, the system administrator can run a commandline

program to password-protect the base design.

1. Open a command window and browse to the folder where password.exe is typically

located:

<creoschematics_loadpoint>\i486_nt\creoschematics\bin

2. Enter password set <path to design—including the design folder> <password>.

In the following example, Creo Schematics is installed at <creoschematics_

loadpoint>.

The design that requires password protection is at <design_

location>Project1.

The password that is set to the base design (Project1) is Creo.

a. Open a command window and browse to the bin directory:

<creoschematics_loadpoint>\i486_nt\creoschematics\bin

b. At the prompt, type the following command:

password set <design_location>\Project1 Creo

A system message confirms that the password has been set to Creo.

3. To unlock a design, open it in Creo Schematics. Click Admin Unlock catalog and

enter the password.

I tried this command to make password protected,

but i faced following  error

" RSDesigner Password Utility

change_directory: cannot change working directory to C:\Users\Public\Documents\Creo "

but the default location of saving the design in Creo schematic is same as above i.e " C:\Users\Public\Documents\Creo ".

Changing this default location does it work ?

I literally tried changing the design locations by moving designs but couldn't achieve in setting the password successfully.

or please let me know if there is a specific location where the designs should be saved.

like in " C:\Program Files\PTC\Creo 10.0.0.0\????? "

Yes it worked for me now. I could able to set password to the template file also, i could able to modify the artifacts.

Thank you for taking time and answered for this. This made my work speed and more discipline now 🙂

I would come back to you for more challenging doubts on Creo schematics.

Really appreciate your guidance on this.

Hi PKUMARAK,

To create a new folder you must select the top level folder first. In your example, select folder “Groups” like this screen shot;

upload_-aW1hZ2UwMDEucG5n-5371927264100979364..png

Then you will get the option to create a new subfolder (first icon on left).

Hi John,

Yes you are right it will allow me to create folder under groups, also under the folder which are not submitted to central catalogue location.

but its not allowing me to create new folder under the submitted folder as you can see below first image.

How can i unlock that folder so i can create new folder in that folder itself.

Hi PKUMARAK,

I think there is a requirement that the folders names must be uppercase names for it to create the subfolders. I could be wrong but think that is required since all of ours are uppercased names.
