I haven't seen this behavior...however I have noticed a possible delay in the dynamic filtering on the People page when using Chrome. If there are network latency issues (as I've experienced a lot of using the conference hotel wifi), then maybe this could result in additional issues.
In a related manner, I did have issues with the CAPTCHA using IE when registering my community user. It simply would not validate my input correctly, when I know I had entered it correctly. I had to use Firefox to register.

Jeff Ploetner - I believe a valid workaround to your issue is to change your view to "List" instead of "Tile" view. This must be changed initially on another browser, since the options may not present themselves in the Chrome view. I hope this helps a little bit-- let me know if you have any other questions.
